Seksualność człowieka zawsze stanowiła istotny element rozważań nad naturą ludzką. Uwaga, jaką poświęcano temu zagadnieniu, nigdy nie ograniczała się do aspektu biologicznego, czego dowodem są licznie funkcjonujące, ściśle przypisane normy zachowań uświęconych przez tradycję, religię czy filozofię.
